Anthony R. Battles began practicing at Faegre & Benson in 1982 and later joined Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly in Minneapolis where he was a partner. Tony has practiced exclusively in the area of employee benefits since 1982. Tony works with several large Midwest employers, including Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, Canadian Pacific Railroad, Soo Line Railroad, Wells Fargo, Alliant Techsystems Inc. and others. He also works with First Solutions (f/k/a First Plan), Education Minnesota, Jamestown Hospital and other non-profit organizations with their employee benefits matters. Tony has extensive experience in the areas of maintaining the tax qualified status of qualified retirement plans (including cash balance, traditional pension, profit sharing, 401(k) and ESOPs), drafting legal documents and providing advice in connection with plan administration, preparing employee communication materials, dealing with IRS, DOL and PBGC audits and inquiries, mergers and acquisitions, welfare benefit plans, resolving benefit disputes and employee benefit consulting.
Tony also has substantial employee benefits litigation experience and is admitted to the Federal District Court of Minnesota and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has been voted a Super Lawyer for many years. He received his law degree from the University of Minnesota, where he served as an editor of Minnesota Law Review.
