Dave joined the Faegre & Benson law firm after graduation from Harvard Law School. Dave's practice at Faegre focused on employee benefits needs of large upper-Midwest employers. In 1990, Dave and Tony Battles left Faegre for Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly, where Dave headed the employee benefits practice group. In 1995, Dave and Tony left Oppenheimer to form Kelly, Hannaford & Battles. Dave's practice includes helping employers maintain their benefit plans in compliance with applicable law, but also helping them provide employee benefits plans that are responsive to employee needs and to the needs of shareholders. Current representative clients include Bemis Company, Inc., Carlson, Inc., and Wells Fargo. Dave also works with several private and not-for-profit companies on executive compensation matters and Code §409A compliance issues.
In addition, Dave recently served as Chair of the Minnesota Museum of American Art and previously as Chair of the Voyageurs National Park Association and the St. Paul Boys and Girls Club, and also as a trustee of the Union Gospel Mission and Carleton College.
